Placer County is located on the northern border of Sacramento County and as of 2000 census had a total population of 305,675. All of these towns are within a reasonable distance from downtown Sacramento with easy access to Interstate 80. Placer County rises to the foothills of the Sierras and many of these towns have scenic views of the Sierras and the hills. The western towns have mild climates while the eastern side in the winter, often cold with snow. Much of Folsom Lake is located in Placer County.
Sun City has built a large retirement complex in the town of Roseville along with the town of Lincoln. Many high-tech firms are along the corridor of Hwy. 65 and tourism remains high in the mountains where world class ski resorts flourish in the Sierra's powdery slopes.
Placer County is one of the fastest growing. There are a wide range of housing opportunities from rugged, rural lifestyle either in the forests of the high Sierra or on the many ranches of the rolling foothills not to mention the fast-growing number of suburban communities.

Auburn is located 30 miles east of Sacramento and is known as "The Endurance capitol of the World." The reason for this is because of the 100 mile races between Auburn and Lake Tahoe either by horse and riders and or runners. Colfax is located on Interstate 80 between Auburn and Truckee. Colfax gets just enough snow for families to have fun in the winter and is one of the oldest cities in Placer County.
