Placer County California Real Estate

                Placer County

Below is a synopsis of Placer County in California to help you while considering your real estate decisions whether buying, selling or just visiting.

Placer County is located on the northern border of Sacramento County and as of 2000 census had a total population of 305,675.  The major towns in Placer County include Roseville (population 102,191), Rocklin (population 50, 494), Auburn (population 12,849), Lincoln (population 27, 356 and growing) Loomis (population 6,274) and Granite Bay (population around 20,000).

All of these towns are within a reasonable distance from downtown Sacramento with easy access to Interstate 80.  Placer County rises to the foothills of the Sierras and many of these towns have scenic views of the Sierras and the hills. The western towns have mild climates while the eastern side in the winter, often cold with snow. Much of Folsom Lake is located in Placer County.

Sun City has built a large retirement complex in the town of Roseville along with the town of Lincoln. Many high-tech firms are along the corridor of Hwy. 65 and tourism remains high in the mountains where world class ski resorts flourish in the Sierra's powdery slopes.

Placer County is one of the fastest growing.  There are a wide range of housing opportunities from rugged, rural lifestyle either in the forests of the high Sierra or on the many ranches of the rolling foothills not to mention the fast-growing number of suburban communities.

Home styles in Placer County range from elegant Victorians in Auburn to the attractive older homes bordering RosevilleΏs Old Town.  Some of the Custom homes in the upscale community of Granite Bay have views of Folsom Lake.

Some of the business in Placer County includes Oracle, Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Roseville Medical Center, Union Pacific Railroad, NEC Electronics, Hewlett-Packard and a 1.1. Million square feet of retail in the Galleria at Roseville.

The Sacramento Magazine chose the Winchester County Club in 2005 as one of their Ώhot new neighborhoodsΏ which is located just north of Auburn and has 409 home sites to build custom homes. These folks have about a 45 minute commute to downtown. And building a home here ranges from $1million up to $5 million +.

Auburn is located 30 miles east of Sacramento and is known as "The Endurance capitol of the World." The reason for this is because of the 100 mile races between Auburn and Lake Tahoe either by horse and riders and or runners. Historic Auburn's Gold Rush heritage is reflected in the Auburn Wild West Stampede.

Outdoor recreation is a hallmark of Auburn with the Auburn State Recreation Area and the American River Canyon which offers horseback riding trails, trail hiking and guided nature trail hikes. While water rafting and kayaking, lake boating, river and lake fishing, mountain biking, and camping are easily accessible. Auburn is also the doorway to the Sierra Nevada foothills which offer skiing, hiking, camping and other outdoor activities.

Homes range from Victorians to modern subdivision as well as upscale custom home sites. There are many rural areas and it is not uncommon to see happy California cows grazing and horses ranging, here.

The Union Pacific still operates the largest switching service yard in the Western States, here.

Granite Bay is just 24 miles northeast of Sacramento and covers an area of approximately 25 square miles and borders Lake Folsom. The community boasts of a very high quality of life due to its great location, super community plan, first rate schools, numerous churches and a low crime rate. Its roots go back when it was known as ΏGranite BarΏ with many gold mines in the 1800's.  Granite Bay was named for the granite rock quarried from its banks and used a rip-rap in the wing dams of Folsom Dam. As you drive through Granite Bay it is very common to see all of the outcroppings of Granite. It gives distinction to this area.  There are several upscale gated communities and a superior Granite Bay golf course.
