The world belongs to the children and we are only holding it in trust until they are old enough to take possession. One way to accomplish our goal of stopping crimes against children and ending child abuse is to arm kids with safety tools based on the most current information and best knowledge available on child safety issues.
The Amber Alert is a critical missing child response program that utilizes the resources of law enforcement and media to notify the public when children are kidnapped by predators.
Our interactive Megan's Law map is color coded to reflect Internet access of community notification laws to better serve America's evolving, fast paced, transient society. Young parents considering day care providers or businesses and organizations whose employees or volunteers have unsupervised access to children require this critical information so that they can make informed choices based on the best information available.
Amber Alert
A parent's worst nightmare is a child abduction. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 74 percent of children who were abducted and later found murdered were killed within three hours of being taken. Quick response is vital.
Teach your child these safety tips:
- Never get into anyone's car without your parents' permission.
- Move away from a car that pulls up beside you if you don't know the driver.
- Say, "No, thank you," if a stranger or someone else offers you candy or gifts.
- Never answer the door if you are home alone.
- Don't play in deserted buildings.
